The very essence of the organization is the outreach or community activities. The hospital began with the
motivation and inspiration to serve those people who are deprived of quality eye treatment
underlying to their economic or other constraints. Under this program, the following activities are performed by
Alakh Nayan Mandir.
Rural Eye Services : In this a team of doctors and paramedics go to various
villages of Udaipur, Rajsamand, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Banswara, Barmer and Bhilwara Districts on pre-scheduled dates. The patients fit for operation are selected and brought to the base hospital on hospital expenses. They are then operated here by the latest and most sophisticated technology. Expenditure for arrangement of stay, food and medicine are also borne by the institute. Follow-up of these patients is done after five days and final check-up after one month of surgery.
School Eye Program: The
main aim of this programme is to concentrate on eye health of little
children, so that any kind of eye disease could be detected and treated at
an early age, to prevent blindness in the older years where the individual
productivity may even be hindered, which in turn causes economic blindness
in the nation. In this, preliminary screening of school students is
absolutely free of cost in the school premises itself. The training of
teachers is also done for vision testing, so that they may assist in the
screening process. Students with diminished vision are referred to the
base hospital for further investigation and provision of spectacles.
Mobile Eye Care Unit : Alakh Nayan Mandir also works through
Two Mobile Eye
Care Units which are equipped with gadgets related to primary eye investigations, viz. Slit Lamp Bio-microscope, Computerised Refractometer and Refraction Set. It also possesses an optical sub-unit, which does the job of lens manufacturing and spectacle dispensing. This is a venture of
Alakh Nayan Mandir which provides reasonably cost effective preliminary treatment to the eye patients residing in remote towns and villages and who have to spend large amount of money on travel to reach the base hospitals at near by major cities. Further, those patients requiring specialized treatment or surgery are transferred to the base hospital at Udaipur
to render them either free or subsidized treatment (depending upon the
condition of the patient).
Majority of the above mentioned community activities are sustained by the revenue that is generated out of the savings from paying patients.
