Kishan Lal Banjara
This is the story of the son of a poor porter (coolic) working at railway station who was suffering from squint of eyes since birth. The community to which Kishan belongs is also not very developed one. As such, these people are not educated about their health problems. This child visited Alakh Nayan Mandir for the first time in 2003 when he was 6 years old. He was having complaint of deviated eye balls in addition to redness in eyes. On examination of his eyes, it was found that he was suffering from hypermetropia. He was thus advised cyclopegic refraction. On diagnosis it was found that this boy was having allergy and high hypermetropia.
Despite the tribal background to which Kishan belongs and financial constraints due to his over consciousness concern about his eyes ; Kishan continuously come for follow–up examinations throughout past six years. As a result of continuous monitoring, it was possible to save Kishan’s eyes.
Kishan last visit to the hospital was on 29th October 2009. He was suffering from diplopia and was asked to revisit the hospital on 9th November 2009 during the Hospital Based Program. During the HBP, voluntary faculty Dr. Donny W. Suh examined Kishan and decided that Kishan must be operated for Squint Correction. So he was operated on 10th November 2009 by voluntary faculty Dr. Donny W. Suh from America.
Kishan’s life has changed because of this surgery the problem he was suffering from past many years is now a forgotten story.
